How Long Do Facial Fillers Last?

Is your face starting to take on a tired, haggard appearance? Perhaps your cheeks are starting to hollow out, or maybe your lips have become too thin. If you’re beginning to see the ramifications of lost volume in your face, dermal fillers may be your solution to restoring a youthful contour to your cheeks, underneath your eyes, around your mouth, and your lips. At Allure Anti-Aging and Aesthetics in Huntington Beach, CA, board-certified otolaryngologist Dr. Sarah Vakkalanka can help you find the perfect filler for your cosmetic goals.

What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are an injectable treatment that can target signs of aging, plumping, smoothing, and restoring lost volume and easing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Once in place, these injectable gels increase volume and support for the face from beneath the skin’s surface.

How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?

Filler results are not permanent because your body will gradually break down and absorb the hyaluronic acid gel. However, they are long-lasting. Your dermal fillers’ longevity depends on several factors, including which filler you choose to have injected into your skin, the location where you have it injected, and your metabolism. Typical longevity ranges from six months to more than two years per treatment. When results begin to fade, we can always touch up an area to ensure you keep the restored volume.

Dermal Filler Options

Each patient who walks through our doors at Allure Anti-Aging and Aesthetics has slightly different cosmetic needs and goals. We’ll work with you to provide results that address your issues and work with your specific facial structure. Dr. Vakkalanka uses four dermal filler product families.

  • Juvéderm: Juvéderm consists of hyaluronic acid and is a smooth gel capable of restoring volume to skin and smoothing away moderate to severe facial wrinkles and lines. Juvéderm results generally last around eight to 12 months.
  • Restylane: Restylane is another HA-based product that minimizes signs of aging around the mouth and eyes while also adding volume to the cheeks. It has a long, safe track record of providing natural results. Restylane generally lasts about 10 months.
  • Sculptra: This injection consists of poly-l-lactic acid, a synthetic substance that can kickstart your body’s natural collagen production. Sculptra’s results take some time to become noticeable, but they are well worth the wait, and can last for as long as two years.
  • Radiesse: Radiesse is an ideal option for patients who want to address wrinkles and folds on their faces and volume loss on the backs of the hands. Radiesse consists of calcium hydroxyapatite – a mineral often found in the bones – suspended into a gel-like substance. Most patients enjoy their Radiesse results for up to 18 months.
